Did I catch you off guard with my pop of color? I hope so!
When I think of the colors of this month, my brain naturally leans towards shades of red, pinks, and light colors that are kicked off by thoughts of Valentine’s Day, Black History Month and Chinese New Year. Colors that represent love, hope, and inspiration for the year to come.
I’m very odd in the way that as most bloggers have started to head towards more neutrals, I yearn for more color. It ebbs and flows based on how I am feeling but right now, but adding more color choices to my wardrobe is so exciting! And what a better way to kick off the month of February than with an inspirational color from the inauguration of President Biden and Madame Vice President Harris.
Traditionally, you see many outfits that represent American designers and usually in shades of red, white and blue to represent patriotism. This year’s dominant colors at the ceremony consisted of many shades of purple signifying the unity of the colors red and blue. A color that is meant to bring together both parties as we move our country forward. How inspirational! (I mean, who could look away from Michelle Obama?! She just slayed the look.) Here is my take on this symbolic color through a monochromatic look – my favorite way to style.
My chunky sweater game has leveled up this year and this purple sweater was a new add to the closet. The thick weave of the fabric and the oversized turtleneck is as cozy as it looks. It hits right at the waistline, similar to a crop sweater, but not as short so its work appropriate. I paired it with a deep plum dot-patterned pant from my closet and a pair of bejeweled pumps. For accessories I complimented the look with my new pieces from Christian Siriano – a bracelet and earring pair that tie in the black patches from the pumps. Finally, my go-to DVF acrylic clutch and sunglasses bring the outfit together.
For my first all purple look of 2021 – I am going to pat myself on the back. I truly had to think outside my normal mindset box and this has pushed me to another place for color combos. I am already pulling out more color for looks to come!
