Short Skirts + The Bodysuit Comeback

DSC_1495

There’s just something about the sunny weather that makes me roll down my windows, feel the wind in my hair and sing at the top of my lungs! Warm weather brings fun activities to life in New England and a complete change in the wardrobe. Thank goodness because my spring/summer attire has been waiting patiently in plastic basement bins, ready to break free.

One of the items that I want to experiment with more often this year is the many lengths and styles of skirts that would be deemed “work appropriate.” One of my favorite places to start the shopping list is at LOFT. The store has a great collection of casual and professional pieces that you can mix and match – just like this bright tangerine skirt that just lights up my day! I absolutely adore the kick pleat in the front that resembles the skorts of my 5th grade memories. Remember those?! Since the skirt is much shorter that I would normally consider wearing to work, I have found that adding tights and a great shoe choice makes this option well-suited for the office and brings a more conservative tone.

Highlighting the skirt with a striped bodysuit (yes, they are making a comeback) provided the perfect contrast without clashing with the skirt. The body suit does have the snaps (you know where…) and is a size small from Topshop. It looks like TOPSHOP has converted the style I am wearing here to a draped front option here instead. The top I purchased is a bit tight so I might size up for my next body suit purchase from them.

In addition, by continuing the outfit with a top layer such as the black long lined vest, it also gives the illusion that the length is much longer than if the outfit was worn without it. The structure from the vest is befitting of the day-to-day wear and isn’t too much for a brisk day when you may need an extra layer for warmth. My vest is from TJMaxx but there are a ton of options I found at Forever 21, and Asos – all at great prices! Tip:: You can achieve the same look and feel with a cardigan that you may already own.

With so many great focal points to the outfit, I opted to keep my accessories simple but fun. Neutral tones and gold jewelry pieces pull together the entire look. What do you think of this outfit? Would you wear this to work?
