2018 is the year of the woman! I finally got to see Black Panther this weekend and I loved it. The visuals were out of this world and the representation of the strong women was inspiring.
It reminded of one of my first encounters with a retail buyer at the beginning of my career. Her name was Shannon and she was a B O S S! Most people were intimidated by her because she knew her business inside and out. No small detail was ever lost and she was never afraid to challenge the status quo. I worked as her account liaison for our company for a few years and eventually was moved off the business when promoted.
At the following meeting, she and I were in the elevator together and she noticed that I was no longer supporting her retail account. When I explained that I was promoted she stated ” As they should. It’s nice to know that there will be another woman at this table.” I was honored and humbled that she thought that of me and it sparked something that I didn’t even know existed. Up until that point, I had never thought of myself as having a voice at the table and that was the first time I considered that it was a possibility. Sometimes it takes an outside perspective to see what you cannot see on your own.
Ever since then, I have approached my roles with a CEO mindset. It has changed my point of view, my approach to my day, how I built the team, and my drive to become a better leader and manager with each passing day. I encourage you to be the CEO of your life and get after your goals! You never know where it will lead you.
Have a great week and thanks for checking in.
