Time is flying but I am thrilled to see some daylight when leaving work in the evenings. How can we already be four days into the month of March?! It feels as though New Year’s Day was just yesterday when we all kicked off our goals and resolutions.
I am slipping a bit on the workout goal since I’m in the tail end of dance team season but improving on the ‘learning how to check out’ at work goal. I am extremely guilty of eating lunch at my desk while working on emails and projects. Anyone else is guilty of this?
It’s part of the workaholic in me but I’ve been doing a few things to give myself some ‘check out’ time:
A. I brought a copy of this month’s Instyle magazine to work so that there is something close by to grab when I need to switch off for a moment. It allows me to turn off my work brain and catch up on the latest trends.
B. I lock my computer screen which keeps me from seeing incoming emails and receiving instant messages that would compel me to jump back into work right away.
C. Finding a quiet place to sit and get some sun is helpful too. Luckily our new HQ has built in quiet rooms, social bands, and areas where I am able to do this.
D. Or….I leave the building altogether. Getting some fresh air and driving to pick up a chai tea to treat myself mid-day has been a welcome change as well. (It also allows me to pick up some coffee and beverages for the rest of the team that could use a little treat too!)
A little refresh and reset really improves my productivity for the second half of the day and makes me want to ‘put my pinky rings up in the air!’ Sometimes I really do if Bruno Mars is singing to me on my Pandora Station. hah!
***Did you know that frequent breaks are better than less frequent longer breaks, so a 5-10 minute break after 50-60 minutes is better than a 20 minute break every 3 hours.
How are you doing with your goals?
