A Weekend Retreat Guide // Camden, Maine

Charming and quaint – this is definitely a destination to add to your list!

If you’re looking for the quintessential New England getaway, you should consider planning a trip to Camden Harbor. You can picture it now: all the cute little boutique gift shops on Main Street, boats lined in the harbor, local farms and eateries, water views, cafes and walking trails galore. That is Camden – Maine’s best kept secret.

I highly recommend staying at the Camden Harbour Inn. I was introduced to this place by a friend and I am glad that I didn’t stay anywhere else. The Camden Harbour Inn is comfy yet chic and most of the rooms have the most breathtaking views of the harbor. Sit on the front porch in a rocking chair and enjoy a coffee with your newspaper. (Yes I said Newspaper!) Have breakfast or dinner at the Inn’s restaurant, Natalie’s, and finish with a cocktail at the bar. I won’t give away all their secrets, but you will be surprised on a daily basis as to how attentive and hospitable the staff is. I was absolutely blown away!

While in Camden, you should stop by the Camden Public Library. It is extremely unique in design with a combination of old and new structures, decor and events. Take some time to walk through the beautiful park and amphitheater reminiscent of Narnia right beside it. (this is where I took these photos) Additionally, about a block away is Camden Deli. Even if you don’t eat there, grab yourself a coffee and a seat. The back of the deli has an unexpectedly stunning waterfall view.

Pop into the shops and pick up something sweet for yourself or for a friend. My favorite thing to do when I travel is to find one special thing that will remind me of my visit. This trip, I picked up my first pair of navy blue, nautical style Tom’s Shoes at the Maine Sport Outfitters. I can’t wait to break them out this summer! Make sure to also stop into Uncle Willy’s Candy Shop for two full floors of retro candy heaven, get a drink at The Drouthy Bear and meet the owner/bartender, and finally have a romantic dinner at 40 Paper Restaurant.

There is so much to do in this cute little town and it was the perfect weekend getaway for the hubby and I. Look into it because you don’t have to take my word for it. 😉
